Xiaomi’s in-house MIUI 7 introduced with personalized UI and new features

The latest iteration of Xiaomi’s in-house custom ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop has been officially announced at an event in China, as expected. Lets learn about the new features of MIUI 7.


The MIUI 7 is a heavily customized ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is the successor of MIUI 6 and builds on the platform with new features. It has personalized UI with more than thousand themes in the Mi Store, new Mi roaming feature, along with faster response speed and better battery life, when compared to MIUI 6. According to Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, there are 750 researchers in the MIUI research and developer team and more than 150 million users worldwide use MIUI in 156 countries. Lets check out the cool new features of the latest MIUI.


MIUI 7 : Features

Firstly, the MIUI 7 comes with four official personalized system UI for women, girls, boys and luxury version. Each of them offers redesigned desktop icons, individual design elements and more. There is a MUSE Theme creation tool that will let designers create themes without the need of any programming. The standard MIUI 7 comes with five sets of system UI which can be changed during boot.

Every new software promises to be faster and more stable. MIUI 7 is no different as it promises faster system response time and animation by about 30%, when compared to MIUI 6. It has optimized CPU scheduling mechanism, strict background power management which will let an app to wake up only when it’s needed and also limit the unnecessary use of WiFi, data network or location services in the background. This helps in improving battery life by almost 7-25%.

There are a set of new large fonts including standard, medium, large, extra-large, jumbo which come with individually tailored dialog layout, text spacing and line spacing, word wrap process and more. There is a new feature in the gallery app which is known as Face recognition technology. It automatically identifies and organizes photos of babies and pets as a collection, which can be shared easily. A new kids mode has been introduced which will let you hide all your personal information and desktop layouts.There is a My business card feature which lets the user add their image or a five second video, that will show up on their friend’s screen, when they call.

Another interesting feature is the Mi Roaming, which now acts as a virtual SIM service. It will work in 36 regions and countries including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, Japan, UK, Australia and more. This will also allow the users to enjoy international roaming in these regions and buy data at an average price of just CNY 0.1 per MB or CNY 15 per GB (US $2.34 / INR Rs 153 approximately). It will allow the users to set the applications they want to use during the international roaming period, set daily limits and more.

The latest MIUI 7 will include more features as well, specially for the global market. That is the only reason for a global launch premier in India on August 19. Xiaomi also announced the latest Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime in China today, which runs on MIUI 7. The developer version of the Chinese MIUI 7 will be available for Redmi 2 and 2S, Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4 and Mi Note series, and the Redmi Note series starting tomorrow (August 14).
