Xiaomi YI 4K action camera with 12 megapixel Sony sensor goes official

Xiaomi YI 4K action camera has been officially launched in China today. It is the successor of the original YI action camera launched in March last year. Lets check out the specifications and features of this latest action camera from Xiaomi’s YI.

The YI 4K action camera features a 12 megapixel camera with Sony IMX377 sensor that has a size of 1/2.3″. It comes with 7P lensf/2.8 aperture and 155-degree wide viewing angle lens. As the name suggests, it can record 4K videos at 30 fps, also Full HD 1080p videos at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.

It features a 2.19-inch display, that comes with 16:9 ratio, pixel density of 330 PPI, 160-degree wide-viewing angle and is also protected by Corning Gorillas Glass. It is powered by an Ambarella A9SE processor that supports H.264 codec. It comes with BCM4330 for WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band) support, which can be used to connect with Android devices. It has a separate app for image and video editing and it will also let you share them directly.

The YI action camera has Bluetooth 4.0, Dual microphones and 6-axis gyroscope for EIS as well. It packs in a 1,400 mAh battery under the hood.

The Xiaomi YI 4K action camera is available in White, Black and Pink color variants. It has been priced at CNY 1199 (US $184 / INR Rs 12,297 approximately) for the normal variant whereas the bundled package with a Bluetooth remote and selfie stick costs CNY 1299 (US $199 / INR Rs 13,316 approximately). Consumers can also purchase other accessories like UV protection lens with leather cover, waterproof case separately. It is only available for order via crowd funding in China currently and will start shipping for the backers in June. The funding target has been achieved and it has now reached 693% (at the time of writing this article), which is a very good news, hence it will be available in the open market soon (maybe July – August).
