One of the biggest Chinese electronics company called Xiaomi has entered the Indian smartphone market and has managed to create quite a storm.
Xiaomi announced the Mi 3, Redmi 1s & Redmi Note on July 15 in a media event in New Delhi. They also announced an exclusive partnership with Flipkart.com via which they will sell it’s products. The Mi 3 is priced at only Rs.13,999 which went on sale on July 22.
To get hold of the Mi 3, a person needs to register by going here, the official website of Mi India. Flipkart had come to a stand still when it’s server froze at 12pm on 22nd July. With more than 1 lakh people registering for the Mi 3 flash sale, only around 10,000 units were in stock. Xiaomi & Flipkart later announced the first batch of Mi 3 was out of stock in 38 minutes. People were hugely disappointed by such low inventory from Xiaomi and took to the social media to convey their disappointment. Some were also asking questions about the integrity of Xiaomi including well-known bloggers as well.
After several weeks, Mi India still sells the Mi 3 in flash sales every Tuesday at 2pm on Flipkart. Till date, Xiaomi has sold 35,000 Mi 3 in India in three flash sales where the second lot sold out in 5 seconds & third lot in 2 seconds. The next flash sale is on August 12 at 2pm with 20,000 sets up for grab. The registration for the same will end on 11:59pm on August 11.
Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra has promised increase in stocks every week but don’t expect any dramatic improvement just yet. Xiaomi is also preparing for the launch of Redmi series consisting of 1s & Note in India by the end of August along with the Xiaomi accessories which include the much talked about Mi Power Bank which is priced at Rs.999 for the 10,400 mAh version & Rs.799 for the 5,200 mAh version. The Redmi 1s will be launched first according to Hugo Barra.
