Xiaomi sold 800,000 units of Redmi Note 2 in 12 hours in China in pilot flash sale

Xiaomi announced their latest budget phablets – the Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime in China on August 13. These devices went on flash sale in China on August 16 and made a world record.

Xiaomi has sold around a whopping 800,000 units of both Redmi Note 2 and Redmi 2 Prime combined, in just 12 hours on August 16 in China. This sets a new record for domestic sales in the country. Lets recap the specifications of the devices.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display with a 178-degree wide viewing angle. It is powered by 2 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit processor along with PowerVR G6200 GPU. It has 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card. It runs on the in-house MIUI 7 OS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

On the camera front, the Note 2 has a 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, Samsung / OmniVision Sensor, 5p lens, f/2.2 aperture and 78-degree wide-angle lens. It can record 1080p Full HD videos. The rear camera has Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) technology that allows it to focus on a subject within 0.1 seconds. It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with OmniVision sensor, 1.4 micron pixel for selfies and video calling, which can also shoot HD videos (720p). It supports dual SIM feature with dual standby mode. It has a 8.25 mm thick body which has a magnesium alloy metal frame around it and weighs 160 grams.

The Note 2 comes with 4G LTE (TDD – B38/B39/B40/B41 & FDD – B1/B3/B7) on both SIM cards, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS and USB OTG as connectivity options. It also comes with an infrared sensor for controlling TVs, Air Conditioners and more. The phablet has a 3,060 mAh removable battery under the hood.

It has been priced at CNY 799 (US $125 / INR Rs 8,100 approximately) for the TDD-LTE and TD-SCDMA variant whereas it will set you back by CNY 899 (US $140 / INR Rs 9,100 approximately) for the FDD-LTE variant. The Note 2 Prime is available in Blue, Bright Yellow, Pink, White and Dark Grey colour variants. It has been priced at CNY 999 (US $156 / INR Rs 10,150 approximately). The second flash sale is on August 24. Xiaomi also announced the Mi WiFi nano wireless router which can be powered by a power bank.
