Xiaomi Redmi 1s to go on sale in first week of September; introductory price could go below Rs. 6999

Xiaomi Redmi 1s was announced by Mi India in Bangalore at an event today. Earlier we had reported it could go on sale on August 25, but today it was revealed that it would launch in the first week of September. Redmi 1s is up on Flipkart as “Coming soon”. The Xiaomi Redmi 1s which is priced at Rs. 6999 could even get a lower price tag at launch. The latest lower mid-range offering from Xiaomi will be sold exactly like the Mi 3 via flash sales every week on Flipkart. You have to pre-register before the sale as is the case with Mi 3. Unlike the Mi 3, Xiaomi has promised more Redmi 1s units at launch. So around 20,000 to 25,000 units could be available when it goes on sale.

Xiaomi has also announced that the Redmi 1s accessories would be available during the smartphone’s launch itself. The screen protectors will be available in shiny and matte finishes for Rs 179, a back cover for Rs 469 and a flip cover for Rs 559.

The Redmi 1s is a budget phone from Xiaomi which is priced at Rs. 6,999. It has a 4.7 inch 720P LED IPS Display with 321 ppi. It comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8228 1.6GHz processor. On the camera front, it has a 8 megapixel rear camera and 1.6 megapixel front facing camera. It comes with a 2000 mAh removable battery.

Redmi 1s has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It weighs 158 grams and is 9.9 mm in thickness. It comes with an expandable storage slot which can fit in SD cards up to 64GB. It will come preloaded with Android 4.3 JellyBean (upgradable to 4.4 Kitkat) with MIUI v5 on top. It is a dual SIM phone. You can find more about it here.
