Lets go through some stats on MIUI. The first iteration was launched on August 16, 2010. It has 48 official ROMs by MIUI developers + 480 community ROMs by MIUI fans. In the last 5 years, MIUI has been updated 250 times with its weekly updates. MIUI has over 150 million users located in over 156 countries and regions. Now coming to MIUI 7, its tagline is ‘Yours by design’. It has four different system designs. They are Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze and High Life.
MIUI 7 Global ROM: Features
There is a MUSE Theme creation tool that will let designers create themes without the need of any programming. MIUI 7 will come with International wallpaper market, which will come with 10 pre-set HD wallpapers on Daily Lock screen rotation. It is currently only available in India.
Every new software promises to be faster and more stable. MIUI 7 is no different as it promises faster system response time and animation by about 30%, when compared to MIUI 6. It has optimized CPU scheduling mechanism, strict background power management which will let an app to wake up only when it’s needed and also limit the unnecessary use of WiFi, data network or location services in the background. This helps in improving battery life for daily use by almost 10%.
There are a set of new large fonts including standard, medium, large, extra-large, jumbo which come with individually tailored dialog layout, text spacing and line spacing, word wrap process and more. There is a new feature in the gallery app which is known as Face recognition technology. It automatically identifies and organizes photos of babies and pets as a collection, which can be shared easily. A new kids mode has been introduced which will let you hide all your personal information and desktop layouts.There is a My business card feature which lets the user add their image or a five second video (ShowTime), that will show up on their friend’s screen, when they call.
Now, we can skip annoying voice prompts via Interactive Visual Response (IVR). It is available for banking, booking air tickets and more from 50 Indian partners including Citibank, ICICI bank, Spicejet, Indigo, Tata Sky, HeroMotoCorp and more.
Xiaomi has partnered with Opera Max to provide Data Saver. The app compresses browser and in-app media, that will let you save up to 50% of data usage. It will roll out in September 2015 in China, India, Brasil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines.
The MIUI 7 Global developer version (beta) is currently supported on all Xiaomi devices including Redmi 1s, Redmi 2, Mi 3/4/4i, Redmi Note 3G/4G. It will start rolling out from Monday, August 24.
Xiaomi has also announced the Mi 4i Limited Edition in India, goes on sale exclusively on the official website at 2 pm on August 25. It is sort of consolation prize for the Indian consumers since the company did not launch the newly announced Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime.
