Xiaomi was to launch a new TV on March 24 and a Mi TV 2 40-inch with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) has been announced for just RMB 1999 (US $322 / INR Rs 20,000 approximately). Lets have a look at the new cheaper Mi TV 2 in details.


Xiaomi has launched a new cheaper and smaller Mi TV 2 40-inch today. It’s a Smart TV which does more than just surfing channels. It’s a cinema, a game arcade and an entertainment hub. The new TV is priced at just RMB 1999 (US $322 / INR Rs 20,000 approximately) and is made for the mass market. If Xiaomi is able to launch it globally (specially in India), it is a sure shot winner. For 4K lovers, Xiaomi already has you covered with a Mi TV 2 49-inch 4k LED smart TV.

Xiaomi Mi TV 2 40-inch specifications


The new Xiaomi Mi TV 2 has a 40-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD LED display with a Sharp SDP X-GEN panel and 5000:1 contrast ratio. It is powered by a 1.45 GHz quad-core MStar 6A908 Cortex A9 processor with Mali 450 MP4 (4+2 core) GPU. It comes with 1.5GB dual-channel DDR3 RAM along with 8GB eMMC 4.5 flash internal storage. It runs on Android 4.4 OS which is upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Xiaomi Mi TV 2 40-inch comes with Dolby MS12, virtual surround sound. It has a ultra-slim frame with just 14.5 mm being the thinnest point. The TV comes with a Full format player which decodes videos with H.265, H.264, S.263, MPEG4, Real, AFS, etc. It also supports mainstream video formats such as RM, FLV, MOV, AVI, MKV, TS, MP4 and more.

Xiaomi is bringing over 240,000 hours of online content to the Mi TV 2 40-inch. The company is investing US $1 billion and is partnering with several China content partners.

It is available from the official website and will go on sale from March 31 in China. There is no information on the roll out yet but hopefully it is released around the world soon.

Today, the Xiaomi MiPad, Redmi 2 and Mi 4 64GB is going on sale in India.
