Xiaomi Mi MIX concept phone with edgeless design is now a reality

Along with the flagship Mi Note 2, Xiaomi has also launched a new futuristic concept phone called the Mi MIX at an event in China today. It come with an edgeless 6.4-inch display that has a whopping 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. World renowned designer Philippe Starck has designed the phone. Xiaomi Mi MIX Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi MIX features a 6.4-inch (2040 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display, that has 17:9 aspect ratio, 500 nits of brightness, 1300:1 contrast ratio, 94% NTSC color gamut and a whopping 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by a 2.35 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 64-bit processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. It packs in 4 GB of DDR4 RAM with 128 GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0) or 6GB of DDR4 RAM with 256 GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0). The memory cannot be expanded further as it lacks a microSD card slot. The device runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box.

The Mi MIX rocks a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). It can shoot 4K videos and 120fps slow-motion videos. On the front, there is a custom-made 5 megapixel front-facing camera below the screen, which is 50% smaller in size compared to a standard camera sensor, for clicking selfies and making video calls. It supports Dual SIM (nano) and comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack. It has a fingerprint sensor located at the back. It comes with a ceramic body, that is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 209 grams.

On the connectivity front, the Mi MIX comes with 4G VoLTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and USB Type-C. The phablet rocks a 4,400 mAh battery under its hood with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 support.

The Mi MIX uses ultrasonic technology instead of a standard proximity sensor and it also uses Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system instead of a standard earpiece, which will allow the users to listen to calls without the earpiece.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX is available in Black color only. It has been priced at CNY 3499 (US $516 / INR Rs 34,493 approximately) for the standard 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant whereas the Mi MIX special edition with 18K carat gold finish on the frame and rear camera and fingerprint sensor, 6GB RAM and 256GB ROM model costs CNY 3999 (US $590 / INR Rs 39,426 approximately). It can now be ordered in China but will go on sale from November 4. There is no information about its launch globally or in India yet, as expected.
