Xiaomi launches Mi 6 with SD835, 6GB RAM, 12MP dual rear cameras

Xiaomi Mi 6, the latest flagship smartphone from the ‘Apple of China’ has been officially announced at an event in China today. It is the successor of the Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus. The Mi 6 misses out on the 3.5mm headphone jack and instead supports USB Type-C audio. Lets check out its specifications, features and pricing below.

Xiaomi Mi 6 Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi 6 features a 5.15-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD 2.5D curved glass IPS display. It has a pixel density of 428 PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 71.4%. The panel has a brightness of 600 nits, comes with a NTSC color gamut of 94.4% and contrast ratio of 1500:1. It is powered by a 2.45GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 64-bit processor along with Adreno 540 GPU. It comes with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0), but the storage cannot be further expanded since it does not have a microSD card slot. The device runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS.

The Mi 6 has a dual camera setup at the back – a 12 megapixel primary rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS and another 12 megapixel secondary rear camera with f/2.6 aperture and 52mm portrait lens. It can shoot 4K videos and the dual lens setup helps in capturing portrait images with background blur (bokeh) effect. On the front, It comes with a 8 megapixel front-facing camera for clicking selfies and making video calling. It can record Full HD 1080p videos. It support Dual SIM (nano), comes with a under-glass fingerprint sensor located under the home button and Infrared sensor. The body of the Mi 6 is wrapped by a stainless steel frame with 3D curved glass on four sides, that is 7.45mm thick and weighs 182 grams. The Mi 6 is also water splash resistant. According to Xiaomi, all openings including the SIM tray is properly sealed and protected with nano coating but it is not certified for water resistance.

In the connectivity department, the Mi 6 includes 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, NFC, USB Type-C and USB OTG. The smartphone packs in a 3350mAh battery (non-removable) under the hood with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 (18W).

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is available in Black, Blue and White colors along with a Silver Edition (reflective mirror finish Stainless steel frame). It has been priced at CNY 2499 (US $363 / INR Rs. 23,467 approximately) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM model, CNY 2899 (US $421 / INR Rs 27,223 approximately) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant and the same variant with ceramic body and 18K gold finish around the camera is priced at CNY 2999 (US $435 / INR Rs 28,170 approximately). It will go on sale in China from April 28, 2017. There is no information about its global launch yet.
