Xiaomi Mi 5 Gold Edition to go on sale on April 29

Xiaomi has officially announced on Weibo that the Mi 5 Gold Edition will go on sale in China on April 29 at 10 AM. It will come in two different variants – the standard model consisting 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM along with 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset and a higher-end model with the same 3GB RAM but 64GB ROM and 2.1 GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset. They are priced at CNY 1999 ($308 approximately) and CNY 2299 ($354 approximately), respectively. In addition to the Gold Edition, the white color variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro (Glass Back) will also go on sale in China on the same day for CNY 2599 ($400 approximately).


Xiaomi Mi 5 Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD LCD display with 2.5D curved protection. It has a brightness of 600 nits and comes with a NTSC color gamut of 95%. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (MSM8996) 64-bit processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. It packs in 3 GB of LPDDR4 RAM along with 32 / 64 GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0) or comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128 GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0). The device runs on MIUI 7 based on Android Marshmallow OS. One version comes with a 3D glass body with strong glass on the back side and another has ceramic.

The Mi 5 rock a 16 megapixel rear primary camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), 4-axis OIS. It can shoot 4K videos, comes with DTI pixel isolation technology and Spectra image processing. It comes with a 4 megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens for selfies and video calling. It support Dual SIM (nano), comes with a fingerprint sensor and an infrared sensor. It is 7.25 mm thick, weighs 129 grams for the glass variant and 139 grams for the ceramic variant.

On the connectivity front, the Mi 5 comes with 4G LTE with VoLTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C and USB OTG. The smartphone packs in a 3,000 mAh built-in non-removable battery under the hood that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. A 5 minute quick charge will offer up to 2.5 hours of talk time.
