Xiaomi is entering yet another new market. The company has announced the Yi Action Camera which is a low-cost action compact camera to take on Go Pro. It is a waterproof portable camera which has been priced at 399 CNY or US $64 (INR Rs 3,980 approximately) and is available only in China now.

Xiaomi Yi Action Camera Specifications

The Yi Action Camera from Xiaomi has a 16 megapixel camera that uses Sony’s Exmor R BSI CMOS image sensor. The portable camera shoots video at Full HD 1080p at 60fps as well as capture slow motion and adjustable time-lapse videos. This device can become one of the cheapest cameras to be fit on top of a drone.

As we have already mentioned, the Yi Action camera is waterproof for up to 40 meters underwater which is exactly like the Go Pro. So you can take it for a swim and click some selfies. It weighs only 72 grams which is very light weight for a camera that shoots Full HD videos and comes with 64 GB of onboard storage.

The Yi Action Camera only has been priced at 399 CNY or US $64 (INR Rs 3,980 approximately) and it also comes along with a selfie rod for 499 CNY. It is currently being sold in China in limited small batches via flash sales and will reportedly launch in different parts of the world in second half of 2015. The device offers similar specifications to the Go Pro Hero3+ priced at US $300.

Xiaomi is venturing into a lot of segments ranging from power banks, smart band, earphones and headphones, Air Purifier, etc. We would not be surprised if they enter the PC market in a year or two.

Earlier, HTC had introduced RE Camera to take on Go Pro but weren’t quite successful. Read all the announcements of Mobile World Congress.
