Xiaomi to cut the price of Redmi 2 in India on July 7, might introduce the Pro variant as well

As witnessed, Xiaomi is on a price reduction spree in India, mostly due to new variants are in the pipeline. The company is expected to make an announcement tomorrow on the price reduction of Redmi 2 from Rs 6,999 to Rs 5,999.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been an extraordinary budget smartphone in India, ever since its launch for Rs 6,999. The time has come when it will get a customary price reduction by Rs 1,000, which will make it Rs 5,999 and more exciting deal than ever before.

This also means, Xiaomi could launch the Redmi 2 Pro soon in India and price it at Rs 6,999 or little more. It comes with the same hardware except for the RAM and internal storage which is bumped up to 2 GB and 16 GB respectively. The Redmi 2 Pro is currently available for pre-order globally from third-party sellers in China.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 Specifications


The Xiaomi Redmi 2 features a 4.7 inch (1280 x 720 pixels) LED IPS OGS display. It is powered by 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 64-bit processor along with Adreno 305 GPU. The smartphone has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card. It runs on MIUI v6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat and will soon be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

On the camera front, the Redmi 2 has a 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, BSI sensor with f/2.2 aperture which can shoot Full HD 1080p videos. It also has a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling which can also shoot HD videos (720p). It supports dual SIM feature with dual standby mode. It is 9.4 mm thick and weighs 133 grams.

The Redmi 2 comes with 4G LTE (1800 / 2600 MHz) on both SIM cards, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS / A-GPS, GLONASS and USB OTG as connectivity options. The smartphone has a 2,200 mAh battery under the hood.

Xiaomi dropped both the price of Mi 4 64GBMi 4 16GB and Redmi Note 4G in India recently.
