Xiaomi ban partially lifted, Redmi 1s goes on sale on December 23 on Flipkart

Xiaomi was banned by the Delhi High Court to import and sell smartphones in India due to infringement on eight Ericsson’s standard essential patents (SEP). Since then Xiaomi has been fighting the battle in the court and today it has got partial relied in the form of a judgement in its favour.

Xiaomi will be allowed to import and sell devices in India which comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset till January 8. The court is scheduled to hear the case on February 5, so it is likely to get banned again post January 8 if it doesn’t make an out of the court settlement with Ericsson.

Hugo Barra, Global Head of Xiaomi, in a Facebook post has shown his gratitude towards the fans who has been so supportive of Mi India despite the ban. He has given us the good news that Redmi 1s is coming back on sale on December 23 at 2pm on Flipkart. So, the same old flash sale will be back again on December 23 and you will have to register for the same which will start tomorrow. Stay tuned to Mi India’s Facebook page for more details. You can also read our Redmi 1s review.

Also, as Redmi Note 3G comes with MediaTek chipset, it will not go on sale till further notice. Instead, the Redmi Note 4G will go on sale shortly. We do not have the exact date yet but it will likely go on sale on December 30. The Redmi 1s won’t see much demand as it has almost reached the saturation point. Although, the Redmi Note 4G will be on high demand and it will be interesting to see how many units will be up for grabs when it goes on sale.

As the ban has been lifted partially, it will be interesting to see if people shy away from picking up a Redmi 1s or Redmi Note 4G if they had originally intended to. We would like to assure them that Xiaomi is here to stay in India and the ban will be fully removed and it is just a matter of time. Xiaomi better resolve this soon as Micromax will be looking to crack their party by launching the “YU” brand on December 18.

Hopefully, the patent issue will be resolved soon and Xiaomi will bring in the Mi4 along with a host of new devices like Mi Band, Mi Pad, Mi TV2, etc in India.
