Xiaomi announces Redmi 2A priced at USD 97

Xiaomi Redmi 2A has been announced in China at an event to celebrate the company’s 5th anniversary. This becomes the most affordable smartphone from Xiaomi which was leaked ahead of the event and is a variant of the Redmi 2. Lets have a look at the specifications of the device.


Xiaomi Redmi 2A Specifications

The Redmi 2A features a 4.7 inch (1280 x 720 pixels) LED IPS display and is powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core Leadcore LC1860C processor along with Mali T628 dual-core GPU. The smartphone has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card. It runs on MIUI v6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat and will soon be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

On the camera front, the Redmi 2A has a 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, BSI sensor with f/2.2 aperture which can shoot Full HD 1080p videos. It also has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling which can also shoot HD videos (720p). It is a dual SIM smartphone.


Xiaomi Redmi 2A comes with 4G LTE (TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE) on both SIM cards, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG as connectivity options. The smartphone has a 2,200 mAh battery under the hood.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2A is available in Dark Gray, Bright Yellow, Green, Pink and White colour variants and has been priced at CNY 599 (US $97/ INR Rs 6,000 approximately). However, it will be available for CNY 499 (US $80 / INR Rs 5,000 approximately) only on April 8 in China. There is no information on global roll out yet.
