Microsoft quietly announced that the number of apps in the Windows Phone App store has reached the 300,000 mark. This number is still very humble compared to the numbers the iOS App store or the Android Play Store boast of.
There are about 1.3 million Android apps in the market while Apple‘s App Store has about 1.2 million apps. So clearly Windows Phone has a long way to go to even come close to its two major competitors. But there’s an interesting thing to consider that the numbers in Windows Phone App Store are almost twice as they were last year at this time,so the rate is clearly accelerating — half of its library appeared in the past several months. There are also 50 percent more developers, Microsoft adds, which means that many of the new titles are from first-timers. But still many top apps are missing from the Windows Store, so it’s hard to switch from rival platforms when you may have to give up a favorite service or utility.
