Vivo X5Max, the world’s slimmest phablet/smartphone, as expected, has been announced at an event in China. The Vivo X5 Max is now the world’s slimmest phablet which is even thinner than the recently announced OPPO R5, currently the world’s slimmest smartphone and also the Gionee Elife S5.1 which was recently launched in India.
The Vivo X5Max features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD Super AMOLED display with 3.98 mm narrow bezels. The phablet is powered by a 1.5 GHz Octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 processor along with Adreno 405 GPU. It has 2 GB of RAM and comes with 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. The phablet will run on Funtouch OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and hopefully get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future. The device comes with a magnesium alloy and stainless steel body along with a stainless steel back with anti-fingerprint coating. It also has YAMAHA YSS-205X digital surround signal processing chip, SABRE ES9601 DAC and TI’s OPA1612 amplifier for better audio output. The company has the named the combined output setup as Hi-Fi 2.0.
On the camera front, it has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. The Vivo X5Max phablet has dual SIM support with one micro SIM and one nano SIM slot which also doubles up as a microSD card slot when the second slot is unused. The device has a 3.5 mm audio jack with interlocking design to fit into the thin chassis unlike the OPPO R5 which doesn’t come with it.
The Vivo X5Max has 4G LTE/3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG as connectivity options. The phablet has a 2,000 mAh battery under the hood to power the super slim beast.
The Vivo X5Max will come in Aurora White colour and has been priced at 2998 Chinese Yuan (USD 485/ INR 30,000 approximately). You can order it from the official website in China which will begin shipping on December 22. Vivo would be launching the world’s slimmest phablet in India on December 15 and it will be interesting to see if the company partners exclusively with any e-commerce site to sell it in India.
