Thanks to Gearbest, we have the Ulefone Paris with us. Today we bring you the Ulefone Pairs 4G Review. Another Chinese smartphone that looks a lot like Apple’s iPhone is Ulefone Paris 4G. It’s physical looks are remarkable. However, can it’s appearance match its performance? Let’s find out!

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Hardware & Build Quality

Lets quickly go through the specifications of the Ulefone Paris, which is currently priced at $129.99 (current) on Gearbest. The phone features a 5-inch HD IPS display. It is powered by 64 bit octa-core MediaTek MTK6753 chipset, clocked at 1.3 GHz and has Mali-T720 GPU on board. It has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage – expandable up to 128GB. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. It comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Ulefone Paris is 8 mm thick and weighs 125 grams. It supports dual sim (both micro) with dual standby mode, both of which are 4G LTE compatible. The phone packs in a 2250mAh battery.

There are just two buttons on the phone, a volume rocker and a power button on the right side. The three home, back and option buttons sit below the screen and are capacitive. The microUSB charging slot is found on the top edge right beside the 3.5mm audio jack. At the bottom we have the speaker grill and a mic. The device’s plastic back is removable which gives access to the Dual SIM and microSD card slots along with the removable 2250mAh battery.

It weighs only 128 grams, and is just 8mm thick, making it easy to use with one hand. Although the phone looks like a toy, the frame is a very lightweight metal which adds to its durability. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Ulefone Paris did not feel flimsy at all, indicating that the company really did put in a lot of effort to improve the exterior of the product. The device looks exactly like an iPhone except for a few minor differences. If it did feature a 4.7-inch or even a 5.5-inch screen, then it might have looked like a iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Display

The Ulefone Paris features a 5-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone has a pixel density of 294ppi, which is on the lower side than that off an iPhone 6S (326ppi). This means the screen is pretty clear. With a IPS display, the screen offers varied viewing angles and the colors are realistic. The screen is a bit dull even at maximum and as a result viewing the screen in bright sunlight is quite a task. The touch was a bit oversensitive (at least for me). It is also very prone to fingerprints.

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Performance & Gaming

The phone is powered with a 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6753 octa-core processor, 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and ARM Mali-T720 GPU. The device’s performance considering the price point is very good. We did see some minor lags and frame drops while navigating around the UI, running a couple of apps simultaneously or playing games but it can easily power day-to-day applications and tasks of an average user with occasional frame drops.

Playing games on this device is definitely not a pleasure, high end games do lag, however if running these games on medium graphic settings, you can play them easily. The response time was great. The phone does heat up a bit when playing or using it for a long time which is something common these days, and not something to worry about. It does not have any “heating issue”.

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Camera

The paris features a 13-megapixel rear primary camera. It has a large f/1.8 aperture and a Dual LED flash. It supports Full HD video recording as well. Smart gestures like swiping your finger over the front camera to take a picture or taking a photo only when your subject is smiling are cool. We tested the camera in various lighting conditions and we weren’t impressed. The camera is certainly not the best thing about this phone. The clicking time and processing time is not quick, it takes about 2-3 seconds to focus and click a picture. The colors are over saturated in some situations but in most, they are quite real. You also get a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies, which surprisingly is quicker than the rear in processing. Check out the camera samples taken in various lighting conditions and different modes.

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Software, Battery life & Connectivity

The Ulefone Paris comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop OS but the company’s ‘U’ launcher makes some significant changes to the UI, the result is a iPhone-like software without an app drawer, and all your applications are on the home screens. It’s an approach that I personally don’t enjoy, I like to keep most of the apps in the app drawer keeping my home screens neat and tidy but it’s easy to organize apps into folders. Some users actually prefer this kind of user interface, but personally this just doesn’t do it for me. Gestures like three-finger screenshots are also available in the settings.

As mentioned earlier, the battery is removable, with 2,250 mAh capacity. It takes about 2-3 hours to charge it from 0-100%. Ulefone says the phone can easily last one full working day, and 268 hours on standby but that’s what the company says, doesn’t mean it is true. We were hardly able to get a day on moderate usage. 268 hours might be a bit exaggerated but you can easily get about 4-5 days on standby. You won’t buy a phone for its standby time for sure.

One of the great things about the phone is that it’s dual-SIM, both of which are micro SIM slots. Both the SIM slots supports 4G LTE but only one can be configured to use data at one instant. It supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS and USB OTG.

Ulefone Paris 4G Review : Final Verdict

The Ulefone Paris is a good buy at $130 with its Dual SIM functionality, but has a lower screen resolution. The camera isn’t as impressive as the rest of the specifications but it’s still acceptable considering the price point.
