Sony Xperia Z5 Premium now official, becomes the first phone with 4K display

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has been officially announced at IFA 2015. It is a variant of the flagship, Xperia Z5 but is called the super flagship phone because it comes with a whopping 4K display. Lets take a dive into the specifications of the device.


Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Specifications

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium features a 5.5-inch (3840 x 2160 pixels) 4K Triluminos display with X-Reality for Mobiles. It comes with a pixel density of whopping 806 ppi. It is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor along with Adreno 430 GPU. It has 3 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of internal memory which can also be expanded up to 200 GB via microSD card. The device runs on the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Xperia launcher on top. It has frosted glass on the back and the Xperia logo has been engraved on the side. The best thing about the 4K display is that Sony has built-in ‘upscale to 4K’ technology which will basically enable the user to watch any content in 4K and take advantage of the gorgeous display.


The Xperia Z5 Premium comes with a 23 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1/2.3″ Sony Exmor RS image sensor, Sony G lens, Hybrid AF speed of 0.03 second, 5x clear image zoom without loss of quality. It can also shoot 4K videos. On the front, there is a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with Exmor R sensor and 25 mm wide-angle lens for selfies and video calling. The smartphone is 8.9 mm thick and weighs 138 grams. The device supports Sony DSEE HX audio technology and has LDAC codec, comes with 3.5 mm audio jack and FM Radio with RDS. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor (engraved into the home button) and is IPX5 / IPX8 certified for dust and water resistance with hapless USB.

The Xperia Z5 Premium comes with 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual band) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, MHL 3.0 and GPS / GLONASS as connectivity options. It rocks a 3,430 mAh battery under the hood with STAMINA mode and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. It supports Dual SIM but that is region dependent.


The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is available in Gold, Black and Chrome colour variants and will be rolling out globally in November. The pricing has not been announced yet. The company has also announced the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 compact today.
