Sony Xperia Z3 Compact tablet announced at IFA 2014

After announcing the Xperia Z3 flagship smartphone and its mini version, Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony also announced the new Xperia Z3 Compact tablet at IFA 2014.


Sony’s new tablet has been designed to complement the Xperia Z3, company’s flagship smartphone. The hardware specifications is also quite similar to the Xperia Z3 as well except the screen size.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact tablet features a 8-inch Full HD  TRILUMINOUS display (one of the brightest and sharpest) which is powered by a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor. It has Adreno 330 GPU and also has 3 GB of RAM.

On the camera specifications, it has a 8.1 megapixel rear camera and comes with a 2.2 megapixel front-facing camera on the front for selfies which are also capable of 1080p video recording.


The tablet is ultra-slim at 6.4 mm thickness and weighs only 270 grams. This is actually the most appealing feature which makes it the world’s slimmest and lighest compact tablet. It has¬†IP65/68 rating as its predecessor which makes it dust and water-resistant. Xperia Z3 Compact tablet comes with a new audio technology called DSEE HX audio technology. It is also the world’s first and only tablet with PS4 Remote Play feature.

It has all the standard connectivity options like WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X, GPS/GLONASS, MHL 3.0, NFC as well as comes with 4G LTE and 3G/HSPA+. According to Sony, the battery on the tablet will last for about 13 hours on video playback, which is superb considering its packed features. Although, the battery capacity is not known yet.

The tablet will go on sale this month globally and will be available only in black or white colour variants.
