Smartisan U1 colourful phablet announced, price starts at USD 140

Smartisan, a Chinese startup that makes mobile devices has now launched their second product named Smartisan U1 or JianGuo (Chinese). Lets check out the specifications of the colour phablet.


Smartisan U1 / JianGuo Specifications

The Smartisan U1 features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has a pixel density of 403 ppi. It is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (Quad A53 – 1.5GHz + Quad A53 – 1.0 GHz) 64-bit processor along with Adreno 405 GPU. It has 2 GB of RAM and comes with 16 or 32 GB of internal memory which cannot be expanded via microSD card. The device┬áruns on Smartisan OS 2.0 based on top of Android Lollipop. The OS is heavily customized which include features like integrated business card scanner, disc scratching in the music app and more.

The device is primarily made out of plastic but has a unique back panel made out of grooved vertically striped design. It has volume buttons on both sides. The user has the freedom to assign control to adjust volume with one side and adjust screen brightness on the other side. Another useful trick is that you can press both the keys together to take an instant picture, even if the device is in sleep.


The U1 comes with a 13 megapixel primary rear camera with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling. It is 9.0 mm thick and weighs 155 grams. The phablet supports Dual SIM and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Smartisan U1 includes 4G LTE (Band 1/3/7/38/39/40/41), 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS as connectivity options. It packs in a 2,900 mAh battery under the hood.

The Smartisan U1 or JianGuo is available in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple. It has been priced at CNY 899 (US $140 / INR Rs 9,250 approximately) for the 16GB variant and the 32GB model costs CNY 999 (US $156 / INR Rs 10,300 approximately). It goes on sale in China from September 1 but there is no announcement on global launch yet.
