Samsung has launched the first Tizen powered smartphone in the African region. After launching the Samsung Z2 in India, it is now available in South Africa. It is priced at ZAR 1099 (US $76 approximately) for the unlocked model, however if you want it on a contract, Vodacom is selling it as well. Plan starts from ZAR 79 ($5.5) per month. Samsung Z2 Specifications
The Samsung Z2 features a 4.0-inch (800 x 480 pixels) WVGA TFT display, that is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. It comes with 1 GB of RAM along with 8 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. The device runs on Tizen OS 2.4 out of the box.
On the camera front, the Z2 rocks a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/2.2 aperture. There is a 0.3 megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera with f/2.4 aperture for selfies and video calling. It supports Dual SIM (micro), comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack and FM Radio. It also has an Ultra data saving (UDS) mode, which is powered by Opera Max and it compresses cellular data across all contents. The body of the phone is 10.8 mm thick.
On the connectivity front, the Z2 comes with 4G with VoLTE support, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The smartphone packs a 1,500 mAh battery under the hood. It is available in Black and Gold color variants.
