Samsung Galaxy S7 has been officially launched in India at an event in Delhi, as expected. It was announced at the Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event in Barcelona last month. Lets take a look at the specifications and features of the new flagship smartphone from Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD Super AMOLED always-on, pressure sensitive display that comes with a pixel density of 577 PPI. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos 8 8890 (Quad 2.3 GHz + Quad 1.6 GHz) 64-bit processor. It comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and has 32 / 64 GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 200 GB via microSD card. It runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow with TouchWiz UI on top of it. It has a 3D glass and metal design and features internal cooling system that will keep the device from overheating. Hopefully, no more ‘heating issues’ for Galaxy S7 then.
One the camera front, the Galaxy S7 rocks a 12 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/1.7 aperture and Smart OIS. The Dual pixel rear camera is promising brighter and sharper images, even in low light. It comes with a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture for selfies and video calling. The smartphone is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 152 grams. It comes with a heart rate sensor, fingerprint sensor and Barometer as well. It is also water and dust resistant since it is IP68 certified. It supports Hybrid Dual SIM (nano) where the user can swap the second SIM card to put in a microSD card.
The Galaxy S7 comes with 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with GLONASS, USB 2.0 and NFC as connectivity options. The smartphone packs in a 3,000 mAh battery under the hood that supports both wired and wireless (WPC and PMA) fast charging.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is available in Black Onyx, Silver Titanium and Gold Platinum color variants. It has been priced at Rs 48,900 (32 GB) in India and customers pre-ordering it between March 8 – March 17 will get a free Gear VR headset. Vodafone Red customers will also get double voice and data offer for 6 months.
Samsung will be offering accessories like Clear Cover, Battery Pack, Flip Wallet, LED View Cover, S View Cover, Clear View Cover and Wireless Charger Stand on the purchase of these new flagship smartphones. Samsung India has also launched the Galaxy S6 edge for Rs 56,900 (32GB ROM).

Samsung India R&D’s Role
Samsung R&D in India played a significant role in the development of the new devices, with many engineers involved in the expansion of the My Galaxy platform to cater to the needs of premium users in India with Samsung Concierge. The unique consumer engagement platform has been customized to offer valuable services such as My Assistant, Phone pick up and drop, Fast Track service and Live Chat.
The Indian R&D team also contributed to developing the Motion Panorama feature that will enable consumers to capture live events in great detail by capturing every piece of dynamic motion. Additionally, the Spotlight Selfie feature that provides consumers a studio-like environment with virtual light source, was developed in India.
Other features like Game Mode Power/Memory Saving Solutions, Enhanced Internet Browser, Voice over LTE, Enhanced Messaging, In-Car experience, Voice Interface, Gallery and Gear Manager have significant contribution by Indian R&D.
