Samsung announced the latest flagship devices – the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York on August 13. Both the devices are supposed to go on sale on August 21 in USA and Canada, however, Taiwan becomes the first country to sell the Note 5.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is now available in Taiwan. This becomes the first country to have the latest phablet because the Note series has been a best-seller in this part of the world, according to reports. Here, the 32GB variant has been priced at US $740 (INR Rs 48,200 approximately) and $820 (INR Rs 53,400 approximately) for the 64GB variant. However, the model with more storage will not be available till the end of August. The pricing is cheaper compared if we compare it to the US pricing of the unlocked Note 5. Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 features a 5.7-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD Super AMOLED display, with a pixel density of 518 ppi, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It is powered by octa-core Exynos 7420 (Quad 2.1 GHz + Quad 1.5 GHz) 64-bit processor. It comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and has 32 / 64 GB of internal storage, which cannot be expanded via microSD card. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box with TouchWiz on top of it. Samsung Pay goes out of beta and will start functioning from August 20. It comes with the new S Pen stylus with click mechanism. It has KNOX Active Protection and My KNOX app to protect sensitive data (personal and work).
One the camera front, the Note 5 rocks a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash along with f/1.9 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation. The rear camera It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. Users can click pictures with ‘Pro’ mode which has the capability to shoot images in RAW format and can also control shutter speed. It is 7.6 mm thick and weighs 171 grams. It has heart rate sensor on the back and fingerprint scanner on the home button.
The Note 5 comes with 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 LE & apt-X, GPS, GLONASS and NFC as connectivity options. The phablet is powered by a 3,000 mAh non-replaceable battery under the hood with fast charging, which charges it completely in 90 minutes. It also comes with new fast wireless charging which charges it completely in 120 minutes.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is available in white pearl, black sapphire, gold platinum and silver titan colour variants. Both the new devices go on sale in USA and Canada starting August 21. The company has announced keyboard covers for the new phablets, priced at US $80.
