Samsung G9198 flip smartphone officially announced in China

Amidst the frenzy of the new Galaxy devices, Samsung G9198 flip smartphone has been officially announced in China. We spotted it on TENAA around a month back. Lets check out the specifications.

Samsung G9198 flip smartphone Specifications

The Samsung G9198 flip smartphone features dual displays – one on the outside and on inside, both of which are 3.91-inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. It is powered by a 1.8 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit processor, which is also found on the recently launched LG G4. It has 2 GB of RAM and comes with 16 GB of internal memory which can also be expanded via microSD card. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box with TouchWiz on top of it.

The G9198 rocks a 16 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/1.9 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). On the front, there is a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture for selfies and video calling. Users can click pictures with ‘Pro’ mode which has the capability to shoot images in RAW format and can also control shutter speed. It is 16.7 mm thick which is a lot considering how slim the smartphones are these days. It supports Dual SIM as well.

On the connectivity front, the G9198 has 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS and GLONASS. It packs in a 2,020 mAh battery under the hood.

The Samsung G9198 flip smartphone is for a niche market and will be available exclusively in China. We hope Samsung has a change of heart and introduce it to the rest of the world since it is rocking a camera found on the newly launched Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. Also, consumers would love to go retro again.

In other news, the Galaxy Note 5 is now available in Taiwan. Samsung will be introducing the next-gen Gear S2 smartwatch at IFA on September 3.
