OPPO R5 was unveiled by the company on October 30 priced at USD 499 along with the OPPO N3. The world’s slimmest smartphone at 4.85mm will go on sale in India this December priced around Rs 30,000. We call a device having 5.5-inch display or above, a phablet, so the Vivo X5Max is the slimmest phablet in the world at 4.75mm which was launched in China on December 10 priced at USD 485.
The OPPO R5 features a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD AMOLED display which has 423 PPI. The smartphone is powered by 1.5 GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) processor with Adreno 405 GPU. It has 2 GB of RAM and comes with 16 GB of internal memory which cannot be expanded via microSD card. OPPO R5 runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat with the latest Color OS 2.0 custom skin on top of it. The phone is just 4.85 mm thick, which makes it slimmest smartphone in the world surpassing the Gionee S5.1, which was recently crowned as the slimmest smartphone in Guinness Book of World Records. The phone only weighs 155 grams.
OPPO R5 is also the world’s first smartphone that uses phase-change material, which keeps it at a constant cool temperature while maintaining superior functionality. The R5’s patented heat dissipation technology “Cool Element” protects its octa-core CPU, which in turn prolongs the life of the phone. Just 4.85 mm thickness comes at the cost of removal of 3.5 mm audio jack. You need to use the headset supplied in the box or use bluetooth headset.
The OPPO R5 houses a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. It has a Sony IMX214 sensor with f2.0 aperture. With the latest PI 2.0 Flash Shot technology, the OPPO R5 will let you take shots with an imperceptible focus time. It has a maximum focus time of 0.18 seconds and also delivers 50-megapixel high-definition images. On the front, it comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for your selfies and video calling.
The OPPO R5 is built with first-grade steel and has been designed with a beautiful micro-arc frame to make the entire device smooth and strong. The OPPO R5 includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and 4G LTE/3G as connectivity options. The R5 houses a 2,000 mAh Li-polymer battery under the hood which uses OPPO’s proprietary VOOC mini rapid charging system. With this technology, a 30 minute charge the smartphone to 75% of its capacity. The company has made the VOOC mini much smaller than previous generation which will be easier to carry.
The OPPO R5 will be available in silver colour variant priced around Rs 30,000 in India in a couple of weeks from now. The Vivo X5Max would be launching in India tomorrow which will also be priced around Rs 30,000. It is going to be the battle of the slimmest devices in India with Gionee Elife S5.1 already joining in the fun as well. Slim is going to be the new trend now.
