Today, OnePlus announced it will sell the OnePlus One in India on February 10 (Tuesday) without ‘Invite’. The company plans to sell their device without invite every Tuesday directly through their website globally.
OnePlus will sell both the 16 GB Silk White and 64 GB Sandstone Black variant of the One without invite every Tuesday globally. The company started pre-order system and did few open sales but never really scrapped the invite system. They will not be scrapping it anytime soon as well.
Announcing the open-sale model on every Tuesday, Carl Pei, Director of OnePlus Global, on his blog, said,
“Over past few months, we’ve been exploring new ways of making the OnePlus One easier to purchase. The overall amount of available invites has increased significantly, but we’ve also held pre-order and open sales events, allowing for purchases without the need for an invite. During these events, we have been collecting data and fine-tuning our production schedules.
This doesn’t mean that our beloved invite system is going away, and it will continue to be the standard method for purchasing the One during the remaining 6 days of the week. And, you will still receive invites to share with friends whenever you buy a One, even on Tuesdays.”
In this way, OnePlus might be directly competing with Xiaomi which also sells their devices every Tuesdays, if it plans to do the same in India. The Mi 4 16 GB will go on sale tomorrow which will have direct competition from the OnePlus One. Xiaomi has also revealed the price and availability of the 64 GB Mi 4.
OnePlus One open sales will take place every Tuesday for 24 hours, starting at 8am London time (12 am in Los Angeles and 4pm in Hong Kong).
