OnePlus 2 is probably couple of weeks away from launch and the company has revealed the second equipment to be on board. It is the mother of ports and the future standard – the USB Type C.
As we already know, the OnePlus 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 v2.1 – the updated processor which will keep the device “cooler than ever”. It will run on the in-house Oxygen OS out of the box. OnePlus has optimized 810 with OxygenOS and have created a proprietary technology. To put it in simple terms, “one of the ROM’s features is to intuitively know which processor should be used for what task, and it avoids using two or more processors that are right next to each other.”
Now we also know, USB Type C will be on board. OnePlus 2 will become the first flagship device of 2015 to come with USB C. We have already seen it in the new Apple Macbook and Google Chromebook. Also in Nokia’s N1 tablet, Microsoft’s Surface 3 and a couple of smartphones from LeTV. It is undoubtedly the future of connectors which will be seen in most smartphones and laptops. It remains the most powerful, futuristic universal and importantly open source. It could be the end of adapter issues with one port across all our devices. It certainly will take some time but we will be there, in a year or two.
On this announcement, the OnePlus Blog said,
“The OnePlus 2 will be the first global flagship smartphone sporting this breakthrough technology. Its cable channels the same beautiful design of the OnePlus One’s that our users love, but this time with the added convenience and comfort of a reversible plug. Great products make life easier, and reducing a bit of worry everyday when our users plug-in their devices is a significant improvement in user experience that we’re proud off.
USB Type C is the way of the future. The varying port size taking up space on your devices will gradually change to the new Type C open standard for more efficiency. With all the benefits this brings, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing it everywhere very soon. OnePlus 2 users will be future proof when this happens.
Paired with our adapter, the port will be backwards compatible, so current One owners don’t have to worry. With the OnePlus 2, the USB cable is more optimal than ever. It’s a simple change to connectivity, but it’s something we saw needed to change.
But that’s not all. We’ve made further improvements on top of the USB Type C standard that we have patented and that will be exclusive to OnePlus. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, so tune into the OnePlus 2 launch to find out more!”
So, it looks like the USB Type C on ‘2’ will have some superior patented technology than the normal USB C. However, we have to wait till launch to find out more on that. If you’re interested in the next specification, the cat will be out of the bag on June 25.
