OnePlus started selling their ‘2016 flagship killer’ from August 11, however, you need an ‘invite’ to purchase the device. The company has released the ‘OnePlus 2 kernel source’ today.

OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei tweeted about the release of OnePlus 2 kernel source today. It is now available for download on GitHub. The kernel source is not useful for the end consumers directly but it will help the Android developer community to build different custom ROMs for the OnePlus 2. Thus, releasing the kernel source this early will make the phone more ‘open’ and ‘customizable’ than ever before.
Specially, when the in-house OxygenOS is not yet stable, OnePlus 2 owners would like to use different ROMs on their latest device. The company is still developing OxygenOS and has recently pushed out the first major OTA couple of days back. Lets have a recap of the specifications of OnePlus 2.
OnePlus 2 Specifications
The OnePlus 2 phablet features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD in-cell IPS display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The display has a pixel density of 401ppi. It is powered by a 1.8 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 64-bit processor along with Adreno 430 GPU. It has 3 / 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and comes with 16 / 64 GB of internal memory which cannot be expanded via microSD card.
The device runs on their own in-house custom ROM called OxygenOS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. It comes with ‘Dark Mode’, ‘Color Mode’. There is a brand new Camera UI, which allows the users to take 50 megapixel photos, slo-mo video (120fps), time-lapse videos. It has a magnesium alloy metal frame running around the body with polished silver buttons. There is a fingerprint sensor integrated on the new home button that is also dubbed ‘faster than Apple’s TouchID’. It has an alert slider button to switch between No Notifications, Priority Notifications and All Notifications.
The OnePlus 2 comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, 1.3 micron lens, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), Laser Focus and f/2.0 aperture. It can shoot 4K videos as well. On the front, there is a 5 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. It supports Dual SIM and has a 3.5 mm audio jack. It is 9.85 mm thick and weighs 175 grams.
The OnePlus 2 includes 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 & 5 GHz dual band), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and GLONASS as connectivity options. It has a USB Type-C port and the other side (USB-A) is also reversible, which has been patented by OnePlus. The phablet packs in a 3,300 mAh battery under the hood.
We hope the release of OnePlus 2 kernel source will help the OnePlus 2 community to churn out great custom ROMs.
