John Scully, the ex-CEO (in-famous) of Apple had backed a company called Obi Mobiles and it was re-branded as Obi Worldphone back in August. The company announced two new devices that time – the Obi Worldphone SF1 and SJ1.5 and they have recently been launched in Vietnam and Dubai.
These Obi Worldphone SF1 and SJ1.5 are designed by San Francisco-based product studio Ammunition. The company is bringing the SF1 to India by the end of this month (November). Obi has also mentioned that they have partnered with Qualcomm, Dolby, Sony, Corning Incorporated, Google, MediaTek, Japan Display Inc and Samsung for these devices.
Obi Worldphone SF1 Specifications
The Obi Worldphone SF1 features a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD JDI In-Cell IPS floating display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has oleophobic coating. It is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit (Quad A53 – 1.5 GHz + Quad A53 – 1.0 GHz) processor along with Adreno 405 GPU. It has 2 / 3 GB of RAM and comes with 16 / 32 GB of internal memory which can also be expanded up to 64 GB via microSD card. The device runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box with Obi’s own UI on top of it.
The SF1 comes with a 13 megapixel rear primary camera with LED flash, Sony IMX214 sensor and f/2.0 aperture. On the front, it has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash for selfies and video calling. The smartphone supports Dual SIM (micro + nano) and also comes with 3.5 mm audio jack. It is 8 mm thick and weighs 147 grams. It also has Dolby Audio.
The Obi Worldphone SF1 includes 4G LTE (Band 3 & 40), 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS / GLONASS as connectivity options. The smartphone packs in a 3,000 mAh built-in battery under the hood.
The Obi Worldphone SF1 has been priced at US $199 (INR Rs 13,100 approximately) for the 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM variant whereas the 3GB RAM variant will cost US $249 (INR Rs 16,400 approximately). We will know the indian pricing of the phone when it is launched here. Obi also plans to launch the brand in 50 to 70 developed countries by 2017.
