Nextbit Robin Cloud first Android smartphone now starts shipping for USD 399

Nextbit Robin, a unique Android smartphone based on “cloud first” technology was announced back in September last year. It was based on a Kickstarter campaign and the company had delivered the initial 1000 units this January. Starting today, the smartphone goes on open sale for US $399 from the company’s official website.

The Nextbit Robin is available in mint and midnight color variants and has been priced at $399 (INR Rs 27,436 approximately). Currently, only the GSM variant is shipping whereas the CDMA model is expected to go on sale around April 2016. Sadly for the Indian consumers, it is indefinitely delayed here since Nextbit could not get the ‘regulatory approval in India due to Chinese New Year’. The most differentiating factor of this phone is its 100 GB of free cloud storage. Lets check out the specifications.

Nextbit Robin Specifications

The Nextbit Robin features a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display that is powered by a 1.8 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit processor along with Adreno 418 GPU. It has 3 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of internal memory along with another 100 GB of cloud storage. The device runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box.

Since it is a “cloud first” phone, it will allow the users to quickly upload apps, photos and other contents. If you do not use certain apps and photos, it will automatically get cleared. An app that has been offloaded from the phone will show a grayed-icon on the phone. The basic idea of NextBit is that users using Robin should never run out off space. The smartphone will automatically backup data when connected to a WiFi network.

The Robin comes with a 13 megapixel primary rear camera with phase detection and dual-tone LED flash. It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. It is 7 mm thick and comes with a 3.5mm audio jack. It has the latest USB Type C port, comes with a fingerprint scanner and dual front-facing stereo speakers as well.

The Robin includes 4G LTE (Cat 4), 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual band), Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC and GPS as connectivity options. The smartphone packs in a 2,680 mAh battery under the hood with quick charging feature.
