Few days back at CES Qualcomm focussed on its AllPlay media streaming platform. Now a new leak surfaced online giving us an idea of upcoming Qualcomm processors which include powerful next-gen Snapdragon 815 and 820 processors. The company’s roadmap was leaked by a twitter account ‘@leaksfly’.
The new 64-bit Snapdragon 820 will feature 8 high performance Taipan cores, successor to the Krait cores found in most Android devices over the past few years. The leak mentioned that Snapdragon 820 will feature an Adreno 530 GPU and supports LPDDR4 RAM, LTE-Advanced connectivity.
Alleged specifications for the upcoming system chip also show two key advancements: a quick transition to 14nm FinFet manufacturing at Samsung and Global Foundries fabs. The transition to 14nm FinFet is also hugely important as it will bring solid improvements in performance and efficiency.
The leaked roadmap also hinted for future SoC’s like Snapdragon 815, 625/629, 620, and 616. The Snapdragon 815 will have same RAM and modem as the 820, however it will be forged on a 20nm process. These are 20nm chips with Adreno 418 graphics. The 620 is a quad-core processor while the 625 and 629 chips are octa-core processors. These chips will be used in mid rang mobile devices. Lastly, there is a Snapdragon 616 which takes advantage of eight ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked between 1.8 and 2.2GHz with Adreno 408 GPU.
These SoC should come into play within this year only.
