What to expect at MWC 2015

Mobile World Congress aka MWC 2015 is about to begin on Monday, March 2 and will go on till Thursday, March 5. Although, Samsung and HTC are about to announce their latest hardware on March 1 itself at a pre-MWC event in Barcelona. Lets have a look at what to expect at MWC 2015.


HTC One M9 / HTC One M9 Plus / HTC Petra

First of all let’s have a look at what HTC has in store for us. HTC will certainly show off its latest flagship device, the HTC One M9 at MWC 2015. The smartphone was leaked and official videos were leaked as well.

The HTC One M9 will feature a 5-inch Full HD display which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core SoC. It will come with 3 GB of RAM, 20.7 megapixel camera and a 4 ultrapixel front-facing camera. It is expected to come with a 2,900 mAh battery and certainly run on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The HTC One M9 has a dual finish metal unibody where the rear is silver and edge trimming is gold in colour. It has the same design language as the HTC One M8. A hands on video was leaked ahead of the actual event. Someone just didn’t know the meaning of embargo.

Now coming to the HTC One M9 Plus, it is a blown out version (phablet) of the HTC One M9 flagship smartphone. Most of the specifications of the One M9 Plus will be similar to the HTC One M9 but the phablet will have a 5.5-inch Super LCD3 display with QHD resolution. It might come with a fingerprint scanner as well. Although the HTC One M9 Plus is not confirmed yet but there were leaked press images spotted in the wild.

HTC might finally enter the wearable arena with a fitness band and sport accessory with IP57 certification called the HTC Petra (codename). It will have a flexible 1.8″ PMOLED display with 160 x 32 pixels resolution. It might be one of the lightest smart bands ever weighing just 23 grams and will supposedly last three days.

HTC will live stream the event on their page or you can watch the video embedded below. The first MWC 2015 event will kick off at 4 PM (Barcelona time) or 8:30 PM IST.

Samsung Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 Edge


Samsung’s MWC event is slotted just after HTC on March 1 at 6:30 PM (Barcelona time) or 11 PM IST. The smartphone giant will unveil the Galaxy S6 and the curved variant the Galaxy S6 Edge at their event “Galaxy Unpacked 2015“.

We have seen several leaks of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge along with pricing information, global launch date, Indian launch date, upgraded camera and what not. It will supposedly be the most powerful device from Samsung yet and will look similar to the iPhone 6.


The Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature a 5.1-inch (2,560 x 1440 pixels) QHD Super AMOLED display powered by octa-core Exynos 7420 SoC which will set records on benchmarks. It will have 3 GB of RAM, 16 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash. Samsung will put in a touch-operating fingerprint sensor like the TouchID on the iPhones and the new iPads breaking away from swipe-based ones.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 Edge will come with a curved display on both the edges. It will be identical to the Galaxy S6 in terms of specs but will have 50 mAh more battery life. The “Galaxy Unpacked 2015” event can be watched on live streaming embedded below from 6:30 PM CET or 11 PM IST.

Acer Windows 10 phone / Acer wearable device


Acer Windows 10 phone is expected at MWC 2015. Along with the Windows 10 phone we are expecting an Android Lollipop phone as well. Acer will also step into the wearable game. We do not have any information on the specifications of these devices. Good job Acer for keeping them under wraps. The event will take place at 11:30 AM CET or 4 PM IST.

Microsoft Lumia 640 / Lumia 1330 / Windows 10 Phone OS


Microsoft will unveil new Lumia devices at MWC 2015 on March 2 at 8:30 am CET or 1 pm IST. You can watch the live webcast on their website. Lumia 640 is expected along with Lumia 1330 at the event with more information on Windows 10 phone.

The Microsoft Lumia 640 will feature a 5-inch qHD (1280 x 720 pixels) LCD display. The smartphone will be powered by 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. It will come with 1 GB of RAM and have 8 GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. It will have a 8.7 megapixel rear camera and a 0.9 megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. It will support dual SIM and integrate sports integrated digital television (DTV). The Lumia 640 will come with 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/aGPS and NFC as connectivity options. The smartphone will definitely run on Windows 8.1 with Lumia Denim and be upgradable to Windows 10. The Lumia 640 will reportedly be priced around US $275.

Microsoft might show us the upcoming Lumia 1330/Lumia 1335, which is expected to feature a 5-inch display, a 8.7 megapixel PureView rear camera and more.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet / Xperia M4 Aqua


Sony will announce the Xperia Z4 tablet along with Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone at MWC 2015 on March 2 in Barcelona.

The Sony Xperia Z4 tablet will look similar to the Xperia Z3 tablet Compact  launched at IFA last year. The tablet might be as slim as the iPad Air 2 or Dell Venue 8 tablet. It will come with top of the line “ultra-fast processor”, likely to be the Snapdragon 810 chipset and a 10-inch 2K display. The tablet will have a sleek all metal body with rounded edges.

The Xperia X4 tablet will also be accompanied by an “industry leading battery performance”. As the recent Xperia devices are water and dust proof, we would assume you could take the Xperia Z4 tablet for a swim as well. It would surely run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

On the other hand, the Xperia M4 Aqua will be a water proof device with IP68 certification. It will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. We do not have much information on the specs yet.

LG Watch Urbane LTE / LG Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy


LG will showcase the already launched LG Watch Urbane LTE and LG Watch Urbane running on Android Wear at MWC 2015. Also, they would put on display the four recently launched mid-range smartphones called the Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy all running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. We would get more information on pricing and availability of these products at MWC.

Lenovo Vibe Shot / Vibe X3 / Vibe P1 / Vibe P1 Pro / Vibe S1


Lenovo is looking forward to launch not one or two but five smartphones at MWC this year. They are the Lenovo Vibe Shot, Vibe X3, Vibe P1, Vibe P1 Pro and Vibe S1.

Lenovo Vibe Shot has surfaced on a Thai website recently. The smartphone will feature a 16 megapixel rear camera with triple-tone flash which would produce consistent lighting in all kind of situations. The camera on the Vibe Shot will also have a BSI Sensor along with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

The Lenovo Vibe Shot will rock a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display which will be powered by a Snapdragon 615 SoC. It will come with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage which can be expandable by microSD card. The smartphone will have a metal body with a dedicated camera button for taking pictures easily. It will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and have 4G LTE support. We do not have details about the front-facing camera or battery capacity yet.

A new leak shows Lenovo Vibe X3, Vibe P1, Vibe P1 Pro and Vibe S1 will be launched at MWC 2015. These four smartphones are expected to be high-end devices and are made up of metal instead of plastic. The most high-end among these four models is the Lenovo Vibe X3 which will likely feature a 5.5-inch display, a 20-megapixel camera, dedicated amplifiers and the Hi-Fi 3.0 software package.

If we look at the Vibe S1, it is expected to come it multiple colour variants including pink, light blue and purple. We do not have detailed information on the specs of this device yet.

The Lenovo Vibe P1 is expected to come with a 64-bit octa-core SoC, 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE, a whopping 4,000 mAh battery and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. On the other hand, the Vibe P1 Pro will have a huge 5,000 mAh battery along with a fingerprint sensor. Both the Vibe P1 and P1 Pro are expected to come with quick and reverse (powerbank) charging feature and ceramic nano coating for the chassis.

Gionee Elife S7

Gionee is all set to unveil a super slim flagship device called the Elife S7 at MWC 2015 in Barcelona on March 2, 2015 from 2:30 PM CET or 7 PM IST. A recent Facebook post by Gionee India has a teaser video with a tagline “It’s time to witness the power of 7”. The smartphone is expected to be incredibly thin and also thinner than the recently launched Gionee Elife S5.1 smartphone.

There will be more launches for sure at MWC 2015 and we will certainly cover it over the course of next few days. We will not be live at MWC in Barcelona but our heart and soul is certainly over there. We will bring all the coverage watching live streams and hope to be present at MWC 2016 or 2017 in person.
