Motorola will be bringing affordable 4G Smartphones in India in 2015

After Motorola’s success in the affordable smartphone genre in India, they are aiming for affordable 4G devices in the coming year, according to a report by Economic Times. These 4G devices will be available in India and Brazil in few months. Recently, the specification of the successor of Motorola’s most affordable smartphone, Moto E was leaked. It would be 4G LTE ready and come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

Rick Osterloh, Motorola President and CEO said to The Economic Times

“The transition to 4G will be quick. Next year, we are going to be very aggressive in the 4G value proposition for end users.”

Motorola has faced a tough competition in India due to Xiaomi which launched budget devices that are suitable for Indian markets like the Mi3, Redmi 1S and Redmi Note. Few days back the Chinese vendor got banned from importing and selling devices for owing to a patent infringement related to Ericsson. Though we believe the ban would be lifted soon and Xiaomi would be again back in action. The IDC report states Motorola as the fifth largest smartphone maker with a 5% share in India. After the Lenovo acquisition, the rank just climb up two spots making them the third largest smartphone maker.

Motorola has been known for affordable smartphones in the last few years. We have seen their success with the Moto series devices like the Moto X, Moto G and Moto E. With the affordable 4G smartphones Motorola might go up a few spots in Indian market.
