Microsoft’s Gesture Beta app for Lumia devices now available in Windows Store

Gestures on smart devices are really common these days. Smart TV’s use gesture control to operate them, Laptop’s track pad use different gesture to perform several actions, Smartphone uses gesture to carry out basic functions at ease without following several steps to carry out the same function.One such app has been developed by Microsoft named as Gesture Beta to interact with user’s device without touching it. Primarily this app is limited to Lumia devices.


The Gesture based apps lets user control their phone calls in different manners like they can automatically answer a call by picking up their phone and putting it to their ear, mute the mic during a call by placing the phone face down on a flat surface, turn on speakerphone by placing the phone on its back on a flat surface and silence the ringer by laying the phone face down while not in a call.

Previously these kind of gesture controls were available with many vendors like HTC , LG and many more.  Gestures can be toggled on and off individually but few device like Lumia 630, Lumia 635, and Lumia 530 will have limited options as stated earlier.

Key Features of the app:

  • Answer a call by picking up your phone and putting it to you ear
  • Mute your mic during a call by placing the phone on a flat surface with the display facing down
  • Put the call on speaker by placing the phone on a flat surface with the display facing up
  • Silence incoming call ringer by flipping phone display down
