Microsoft Surface Pro 4 launching in India by January 2016

Microsoft has not launched a single version of their Surface 2-in-1 devices in India so far. It is going to change soon as the company is gearing up to bring the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 to the country soon.


Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that was announced back in October will hit the stores in India by January next year, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He has said that the company has seen a lot of demand for Surface devices in India at the Future Unleashed 2015 event in Mumbai today. However, there was no mention of the company’s first ever in-house laptop – the Surface Book making its way to India.

Microsoft is also bringing their latest flagship phones – the Lumia 950 and 950 XL to India by December 2015.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Specifications

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is the latest 2-in-1 hybrid device from the company that features a 12.3-inch PixelTouch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 10 point multi-touch. It has 5 million pixels that gives it a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and a pixel density of 267 ppi. It is powered by the latest Intel Skylake processors (6th Gen Intel Core m3, i5 or i7) and on the GPU department, it packs in Intel HD graphics 515 (m3), Intel HD graphics 520 (i5) and Intel Iris (i7). It comes with an option of 4GB / 8GB or 16GB of RAM and internal storage option includes 128GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB SSD. It runs on Windows 10 Pro out of the box and comes with free 30 day trial of Office.


The Surface Pro 4 rocks a 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and 1080p Full HD recording. On the front, it has a 5 megapixel front-facing HD camera for video calling and selfies. The camera can also supports Windows Hello face authentication and there is a fingerprint sensor at the front as well. It comes with Stereo microphones and Stereo speakers with Dolby audio. It has a TPM chip for enterprise security. It weighs between 766 grams to 786 grams depending on the processor you choose and is 8.45 mm thick.

On the connectivity front, the Surface Pro 4 comes with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, full size USB 3.0, microSD card reader, 3.5 mm audio jack, mini DisplayPort, Cover port and SurfaceConnect. Microsoft promises battery life of up to 9 hours of video playback. It has ambient light sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope.

A new Surface Pen comes out of the box that properly utilizes the display that comes with 1024 different pressure sensitivity levels. The Pen attaches magnetically to the device and also has an eraser tool now. There is also a new Type Cover for the new Surface that is lighter and thinner but comes with a larger trackpad and more space between the keys. A new Surface dock has also been announced that has 2 Display ports (up to 4K), 4 USB 3.0 ports and an ethernet port. Both of these are backwards compatible with the Surface Pro 3.
