Canonical partnered with Meizu and launched the Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition back in February this year. The most powerful Ubuntu phone has finally gone on sale. It can now be purchased from JD.com for US $369.99. Lets check out the specifications of the device once again.
Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition Specifications
The Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition features a 5.7-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD Super AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has 88-degree viewing angle and a contrast ratio of 10000:1. It is powered by octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 (Quad 2.1 GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) 64-bit processor along with Mali T760 GPU. It has 3 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and comes with 32 GB internal memory that can also be expanded via microSD card. The device runs on Ubuntu OS out of the box, as expected.
The Meizu PRO 5 comes with a 21.6 megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture and 6P lens, Laser Auto Focus, Sony IMX230 Exmor RS BSI sensor and PDAF. It records 4K videos. On the front, it has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with OmniVision OV5670 sensor and f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calling. The phablet is 7.5 mm thick and weighs just 166 grams. It has a full metal body with magnesium alloy frame along with mBack touch-sensitive home button, which offers different functions based on press. Also, comes with mTouch 2.1 fingerprint recognition technology for payments using mPay. It supports Hybrid Dual SIM where the second SIM slot can be used as a microSD card slot.
The Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition includes 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac (dual band), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, VoLTE and USB 3.0 Type-C (reversible) as connectivity options. The phablet packs in a 3,050 mAh battery under the hood that comes with mCharge 2.0 technology. Thus, 0 to 65% charge is completed within 30 minutes.
The company has recently launched the successor of the PRO 5, the Meizu PRO 6 but an Ubuntu edition has not been introduced yet.
