Meizu, the Chinese mobile manufacturer who has recently launched the M1 Note and M1 are currently working on the latest Flyme OS 5.0 version based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company plans to incorporate the ‘Material Design‘ language which is the main essence of Lollipop and give a flatter UI to Flyme OS.
Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro will reportedly be updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop initially, but it is far from completed. The company plans to release an open beta of Flyme OS 5.0 ROM based on Lollipop in March 2015, so that every user can test it.
It would be heartening to see Meizu incorporating the latest version of Android on their own custom ROM in a short period of time where other manufacturers are struggling to do it. This shows Meizu is serious about the software experience on their devices. Currently, both the MX4 and MX4 Pro runs on Flyme OS 4.0 based on Android KitKat, which are being constantly updated via regular firmware upgrades.
Even, OnePlus is also developing their own custom ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop which is at an early beta stage and has named it ‘OxygenOS’. More information about it on February 12, 2015.
