LG G5 with 5.3-inch Quad HD always-on display, hardware expansion slot now selling in USA

The latest flagship smartphone from LG, the G5 is now available in USA, as expected. The device was officially introduced at MWC 2016 in Barcelona in February. It can now be purchased in USA; AT&T has listed it on their website for US $688, if you want it without the contract. If the US consumers want to opt for AT&T’s Next plan, it is available for as low as $22.97 per month.

The LG G5 comes with a free battery and charging cradle in USA, as we already know. Along with this offer, AT&T is offering a $49.99 LG G Pad X 10.1 on a 2-year agreement to customers who are purchasing the G5 on the carrier’s Next plan. Also, you can purchase the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE smartwatch for $99.99 with the contract.

Update: The latest flagship smartphone from LG is now available from all major carriers in the US. The unlocked variant can be purchased from Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint for $624, $630 and $576, respectively. You can also purchase it from US Cellular for as low as $585. If you’re concerned about the freebies, all the carriers are giving away a free battery and a charging cradle.


LG G5 Specifications

The LG G5 features a 5.3-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD always-on display along with 3D Arc Glass. The always-on display will let users check the time, battery status, and notifications without waking up the phone. The display’s backlight only illuminates one small part of the overall display, so only 0.8% of the phone’s battery drains in an hour, according to LG.

It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. It has 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, that can be expanded up to 2 TB via microSD card. The flagship smartphone runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with the latest LG UX on top of it.

The G5 sports a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Optical Image stabilization (OIS) 2.0, Laser Auto Focus, manual mode and support for 4K video recording. It also comes with a 8 megapixel secondary rear camera with 135-degree wide-angle lens. On the front, there is a 8 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. The smartphone is 7.7~8.6 mm thick and weighs 159 grams. It comes with a fingerprint sensor located below the dual rear camera setup. LG has also unveiled a hardware expansion modules named CAM Plus and Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play.


The LG G5 includes 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB Type-C and GPS as connectivity options. It packs in a 2,800 mAh removable battery under the hood that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The LG G5 is available in Titan, Gold, Pink and Silver color variants.
