iOS 8.1 to come with Apple Pay and other improvements, available at 10:30pm in India today

Apple announced the new iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 along with an iMac with Retina 5K display and an updated Mac Mini at the special October 20 event. The Cupertino company also announced the arrival of Apple Pay on October 20 which will be available via iOS 8.1 update.


iOS 8 arrived on September 17 at 10:30 pm in India and around the world at that same time. It had lots of issues and Apple had to literally apologise for it. The company took feedbacks from users and will be updating iOS from iOS 8.0.2 to iOS 8.1 today. Till date, 46% of iOS users are using iOS 8 on their devices as revealed by the company.

iOS 8.1’s biggest feature will be Apple Pay. The new payment system which will be rolled out in today’s update. It also includes Instant Hotspot, SMS relay and the most missed Camera Roll and other general improvements.

Users with compatible iOS devices can download it via OTA update from your device itself or you can do a fresh install from iTunes on your Mac or PC.

Before updating you devices to Apple’s new OS, we would advice you to back up your data. You can back up your data either on iTunes or iCloud. Since, iCloud comes with 5 GB of free storage, we would choose iTunes backup. Go to iTunes either on your Mac or PC, connect your iOS device via WiFi or directly, and then click ‘Back Up Now’. This would let you restore if anything goes wrong after installing iOS 8.1.

So, do check your iOS devices at 10:30 pm tonight if you are in India for the availability of the new software update.
