4G smartphones are hitting the Indian market at slow pace. Already Bharti Airtel and Aircel provide 4G services in few circles. By the next year or so many devices would have 4G capability and people will be used to that.
According to a report by PTI, Huawei is planning to launch affordable 4G smartphones in Indian market in the next quarter or so. The devices would be targeted for mid-ranged Indians and accordingly would be priced under Rs.10,000. By the next year there would be one more service provider that is Reliance Jio who can provide LTE to both 1800 MHz FDD-LTE and on 2300 MHz TDD-LTE spectrum.
P Sanjeev, Director for devices sales, Huawei, said in an interview to PTI:
We are largest owner of essential patents for 4G technology. The essential patents are technology required to connect with 4G network. Within 3-6 months, we have plans to launch 4G handsets below Rs 10,000. The combination of our own patents and arrangement with other companies has helped us in making devices in affordable price range. We sell devices which mostly use our patent technologies.
Other vendors offering 4G devices are Xiaomi who recently launched the Redmi Note 4G variant priced at Rs.9,999. Lumia 638 from Microsoft which is a pretty mid-ranged device tagged at Rs.8,299 and would be available in online store Amazon.in. Next up is Micromax’s YU or the YUREKA smartphone which is the cyanogen based phablet and carries a price tag of Rs.8,999. This device would go on sale in the second week of January.
