Huawei Mate 8 announced with Android Marshmallow and 6-inch display

Huawei Mate 8 has been officially announced at an event in China. It is the latest phablet in the Mate series. Lets go through the specifications of the device.


Huawei Mate 8 Specifications

The Huawei Mate 8 features a 6-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with 2.5D glass and it has 95% wide color gamut. It is powered by octa-core Huawei Kirin 950 processor (Quad 2.3 GHz Cortex A72 + Quad 1.8 GHz Cortex A53) along with Mali T880 GPU. It has 3 / 4 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB / 64 or 128 GB internal storage that can be further expanded via microSD card. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with Emotion UI 4.0 on top of it.

The Mate 8 comes with a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX298 sensor. It also has Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) that will let you focus on a subject in just 0.1 second. On the front, it has a 8 megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.4 aperture for selfies and video calling. Also, there is a highly sensitive circular fingerprint sensor, present at the back of the phone which has 10% more area compared to square ones. It supports Hybrid Dual SIM (nano) where the second SIM slot can be used as a microSD card slot. It is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 185 grams.

The Mate 8 includes 4G LTE, voLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual band), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC and GPS as connectivity options. The phablet packs in a 4,000 mAh battery under the hood. The body is made up of aerospace-grade aluminium and unique 2.5D curved diamond cut glass, according to Huawei.


The Huawei Mate 8 is available in Moonlight Silver, Space Grey, Mocha Brown and Champagne Gold color variants. It has been priced at CNY 2999 (US $469 / INR Rs 31,275 approximately) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM (China Unicom version). The standard variants will cost CNY 3199 (US $501 / INR Rs 33,361 approximately) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, CNY 3699 (US $579 / INR Rs 38,575 approximately) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and CNY 4399 (US $688 / INR Rs 45,875 approximately) for the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM.

The device can now be pre-ordered in China via vmall and will go on sale starting from December 9. Huawei will introduced Mate 8 for global markets at CES 2016 and it will start rolling out from Q1 2016. The company has announced Huawei G7 Plus and Huawei Honor 5X recently.
