Google Maps for iOS and Android follow the track of Material Design, integrates Uber services

The all new Google Maps got the fresh coat of Material Design painted over it earlier today. The Maps 9.0 features a refreshed design with attractive User Interface and bold colors. It also focuses on animations and brings maps closer to real locations.

Evelyn Kim, Google Maps UX Designer, posted in Company’s blog post

“Over the next few days, when you open up Google Maps on your Android or iPhone, you’ll be greeted by bright colors and a fresh new design. This new look is all about creating surfaces and shadows that echo the real world; with Google Maps’ new material feel, layers and buttons come to life so you know just where to touch to get directions, recommendations and imagery.”

In the Material Design convention, user get two circular action buttons, one for jumping to your current location on the map (a second tap switches on the compass mode) and one for initiating navigation. The locations or point of interests are displayed with larger images in card style format.

Google Maps has also got Uber services integrated into it. If a device has the Uber app pre-installed then Maps will show the estimated pick-up time and price for a Uber journey, versus the same journey by public transit. Pretty cool huh!

The update has already reached iOS devices and will soon start to roll for Android devices. I bet you guys will love the new updated Google Maps version 9.0. Hold your patience for few days till the update pops in your phone.
