Slim is the latest “innovation” in the tech industry. Gionee introduced the Elife S5.5 as one of slimmest smartphones in the industry around a year back and then unveiled the Elife S5.1 to enter Guinness Book of world records. Now, the company is planning to unveil new ultra-slim smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), 2015 in Barcelona on March 2.
Undoubtedly, Gionee started the trend with ultra-slim smartphones around a year back with the Elife S5.5 and then went on to launch the Elife S5.1 as well. But, they are not the slimmest smartphones in the world right now, as other manufacturers have raised the bar and taken it a notch higher.
OPPO launched the R5 which is just 4.85 mm thick or you may call it thin. It was recently launched in India priced at Rs 29,990. Another Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has launched the Vivo X5Max which is just 4.75 mm thick and most probably the slimmest smartphone or phablet in the world. The device was launched in India priced at Rs 32,980.
In general, the smartphone industry has shed a lot of fat and the devices have become thinner than ever before. Most of the companies are making their smartphones slimmer with every new launch compromising the battery life or at least not bettering it. We, the consumers would like to see a well-known brand like Apple, Samsung or LG, etc to make their flagship phones a bit thicker to add more battery under the hood. But we are afraid, it is not going to happen anytime soon.
Gionee seems to have something different in mind, as they would not compromise other aspects of the smartphone to make it ultra-slim. The company said,
With smartphone manufacturers racing to launch models that can turn heads, this year at MWC, Gionee is looking at a new wave of slim phones that can be elevated to the next level, bringing its latest slim smartphone that’s more than beyond slim, without compromising on performance and a focus on delivering a superior user experience, whether in technology, design , or usability.
Gionee would be holding the MWC event on March 2, 2015 from 2:30 PM CET (7 PM IST).
