Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has revealed a new roadmap discussing the future of Bluetooth in 2016. It is going to become better and faster next year. Lets have a look at the exact details.
Bluetooth will get a speed boost of about 100% in comparison to today’s speed and also the overall range will expand by up to 4 times. Also, Bluetooth will be getting a new mesh networking feature that will enable Bluetooth devices to connect together in networks than will be able to cover an entire building or house, opening up home and industrial automation applications as well. These improvements are being targeted towards the fast growing industries such as smart home, industrial automation, location-based services and smart infrastructure.
On this occasion, Toby Nixon, Chairman of the Bluetooth SIG Board of Directors said:
“There is a significant demand from our members and the industry at large to enhance Bluetooth with the new capabilities we’re announcing today. Current projections put the market potential for IoT between $2 and $11.1 trillion by 2025. The technical updates planned for Bluetooth technology in 2016 will help make these expectations a reality and accelerate growth in IoT.”
So, Bluetooth “5.0” will be able to cover 4 times more area and around 100% increase in speed will take place in data transfer in 2016. This will happen without any increase in energy consumption, that means battery life of your smartphone will remain unharmed. According to SIG, many additional features and profile updates that are part of the 2016 roadmap will be previewed in the upcoming months.
