ASUS Zenfone 2 coming to India in Q2, Zenfone Zoom in Q3

ASUS launched the Zenfone 2 and Zenfone Zoom at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. The devices haven’t made its way to India yet. Although, consumers looking to buy the Zenfone 2 in India need to wait till Q2, 2015.

Peter Chang, ASUS India’s country head has said, “Zenfone 2, you will see in Q2. Zenfone Zoom might be later, maybe Q3.” The company also plans to launch the ZenWatch which was unveiled at IFA 2014 in India but aren’t sure about the timing yet. “We still plan to launch it in Q1, but now the problem is that we have too many products. So we need to also prioritize and we also have to ensure there is enough supply for existing countries,” said Peter Chang.

Also, the ZenBook Windows 8.1 notebooks are coming to India by Q2, 2015. “Chi and T series of the ZenBook should be launched by Q2.” Let us re-cap the specifications of both Zenfone 2 and Zenfone Zoom.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The display comes with a 72% screen-to-body ratio which indicates it has a slim bezel. It is powered by a 2.3 GHz 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor, which is said to be up to 3.1 times faster than some of its quad-core competitors. On this chipset, the graphics performance is also promised to be up to 8.1 times quicker and this supports OpenGL 3.0.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 has a whopping 4 GB of RAM which makes it the first smartphone/phablet to sport such a configuration. On the camera front, it has a 13 megapixel rear ‘Pixelmaster’ camera with an f/2.0 aperture. It has zero shutter lag and also has “the world’s best HDR technology” according to the company. There is a 5 megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies and video calling. It also packs in innovative features which includes a Beautification mode, that offers real-time image enhancement, skin softening and brightening, blush and colour correction, eye enhance and cheek thinning.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with Zen UI on top of it. The company promises a better zero-lag touch experience with the new Zen UI and it will also feature ‘Zen motion’ that is basically gestures which can be used for assessing various applications. There will be an option called ‘SnapView’ which will allow you to separate work and personal accounts in the new Zen UI.

On the connectivity front, it comes with 4G LTE/3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS. The ASUS Zenfone 2 has a 3,000 mAh battery under the hood which also comes with fast charging technology and charges 0-60% in around 39 minutes which is impressive.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 will come in Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamour Red and Ceramic White colour variants and has been priced at USD 199 (Rs 12,500 approximately).
