Update: Apple iPhone SE coming to India in early April, price starts at Rs 39000

Apple iPhone SE, “The Most Powerful Phone with a Four – inch Display” has been officially announced today at an event in USA, along with the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Although it is not launching in India in the first phase on March 31, it will hit the country in early April (most probably April 7 or 14). We have also found out the official Indian pricing and it is going to start at Rs 39,000 for the 16GB variant whereas the pricing of the 64GB model is not out yet, it should cost Rs 49,000, considering the recent Apple pricing trend in India. Lets have a recap of the specifications and features of the iPhone SE.

Update: The price of iPhone SE (16GB) in India was earlier mentioned to be Rs 30,000, however, Apple India has sent another press release with corrected pricing. Hence, the SE will start at Rs 39,000 in India.


Apple iPhone SE Specifications and Features

The iPhone SE features a 4-inch (1136 × 640 pixels) Retina HD LED-backlit widescreen multi-touch display with IPS technology. It comes with a pixel density of 326 ppi and a contrast ratio of 1400:1. It has a maximum brightness of 500 cd/m2 with Full sRGB standard display and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front. However, the 3D touch support is missing here which was introduced in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The iPhone SE is now powered by the Apple A9 chip along with M9 motion coprocessor that has a 64-bit architecture and it packs in 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM as well for improved performance and faster graphics. It runs on the latest iOS 9.3 OS out of the box.

The all new 4-inch iPhone SE also comes with an all new camera compared to the iPhone 5s. Now, it is equipped with a 12 megapixel rear iSight camera with true-tone flash, f/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens. It now comes with Live Photos and also has Autofocus with Focus Pixels. Now, Panorama can go up to 63 megapixel. It now records 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) videos at 30 fps, 1080p Full HD video at 30 or 60 fps and 720p videos at 30 fps. Coming to Slo-mo videos, it takes 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps. You can also take 8 megapixel still photos while recording 4K videos. On the front, there is a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera with Retina Flash for bright selfies. It comes with a f/2.4 aperture and can record 720p HD videos. It is 7.6 mm thick and weighs 113 grams.

On the connectivity front, the iPhone SE comes with 4G LTE, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MiMo, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC (Apple Pay), GPS and GLONASS, VoLTE. It comes with sensors that include Touch ID, Barometer, Three-axis gyro, accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. Now, there is a 2nd Gen Touch ID sensor baked into the home button that is twice as fast as the last one. It has a battery that gives up to 14 hours of talk time on 3G. Internet usage of up to 12 hours on 3G, up to 13 hours on LTE, up to 13 hours on WiFi. It offers up to 10 days of standby time, up to 50 hours of audio playback and up to 13 hours of HD video playback.


The Apple iPhone SE is available in Space Gray, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold color and 16 / 64 GB storage variants. It has been priced at Rs 39,000 (16GB) in India and the 64GB model might cost Rs 49,000 (unofficial). It launches in early April in Albania, Andorra, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Guernsey, Jersey, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Maldives, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and UAE.

Also, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is coming to India in early April, price starts at Rs 49,900.
