The leaks and speculations regarding the upcoming Apple iPhone 7 Plus has started long back as usual but now components of the next flagship phablet from Apple have surfaced (via 9to5Mac), which shows dual camera module and 256GB of storage. Lets check it out in detail.
According to previous reports, it was said that the iPhone 7 Plus would feature dual rear cameras and will also have an optical zoom built into the lens. Now if you look at the set of component leak images, that had surfaced on Weibo (China’s social network), it shows the new dual camera module i.e. two separate lenses and two flex cables with dedicated connectors. The Apple iPhone 7 Plus will pack dual 12 megapixel sensors, according to reports, where one of them will have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a wider field of view while the other will have a 2-3X optical zoom lens. However, the optical zoom will not make it to the smaller iPhone 7.
Also, these leaked images show a 16GB NAND chip, which sort of confirms that Apple is going to stick with 16GB of storage as the base model for the new iPhones, which really is a deal breaker in 2016 since other manufacturers have moved on and started packing in 32GB as base storage. However, the images show 16GB, 64GB and 256GB ships on board, hence we might see the very first 256GB iPhone by the end of September this year. Also, if the images are legit then the 128GB model will be replaced by the new 256GB storage variant.
Recently, we have seen that the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus will sport a new Smart Connector. It might be there since Apple would like the iPad Pro users who have purchased the Smart Keyboard to be able to use it with the iPhone 7 Plus as well.
Previously, we have seen the iPhone 7 rendered images based on confirmed schematics and thus know about the look of the device. If we summarize all the new iPhone rumours so far, it looks like Apple has decided to drop the traditional 3.5 mm audio jack, hence the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (or Pro) will not come with the 3.5 mm audio jack and might feature a Smart Connector. Also, it might be officially ‘waterproof’ and sport a new ‘touch’ home button. The most hated antenna lines on the back will apparently disappear as well and will get redesigned for a more streamlined look.
The most important change which is not much talked about till now could be the change in the naming scheme. Apple might do away with the ‘number’ and simply call it the ‘All new iPhone’ whereas the ‘Plus’ lineup might become ‘iPhone Pro’. We will get more information about this in the upcoming months. These new iPhones are expected to launch in September 2016.
