Apple iPhone 6s Plus is now official

Apple at the “Hey Siri, give us a hint.” event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California has officially announced the iPhone 6s Plus. Lets take a look at the specifications and features of the 2015 flagship phablet from the Cupertino company that has been in the news since ages now.


Apple iPhone 6s Plus Specifications and Features

The iPhone 6s Plus features a 5.5-inch (1920×1080 pixels) Retina HD LED-backlit widescreen multi-touch display with IPS technology. It comes with a pixel density of 401 ppi and a contrast ratio of 1300:1. It has a maximum brightness of 500 cd/m2 with Full sRGB standard display and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front. Apple has introduced 3D Touch, which is basically a feature that will allow the device to know the difference between a slight tap and a longer or more forceful tap on the display. This feature was introduced on the Apple Watch and was also adapted in the New Macbook’s trackpads. It is now made up of stronger 7000-series aluminium alloy to make it more sturdier.

The iPhone 6s Plus is now powered by the all new Apple A9 chip along with M9 motion coprocessor that has a 64-bit architecture and it packs in 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM as well for improved performance and faster graphics. It runs on the latest iOS 9 OS out of the box.

The all new iPhone also comes with an all new camera. This is one of the biggest upgrade in the iPhone’s history, since Apple Inc. has been using the 8 megapixel sensor from iPhone 4s days. Now, it is equipped with a 12 megapixel rear iSight camera with true-tone flash, f/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens. It now comes with Live Photos and also has Autofocus with Focus Pixels. Now, Panorama can go up to 63 megapixel. It also has Optical image stabilization (OIS). It now records 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) videos at 30 fps, 1080p Full HD video at 30 or 60 fps and 720p videos at 30 fps. Coming to Slo-mo videos, it takes 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps. You can also take 8 megapixel still photos while recording 4K videos. On the front, there is a 5 megapixel front-facing camera with Retina Flash for bright selfies. It comes with a f/2.2 aperture and can record 720p HD videos. It is 7.3 mm thick and weighs 192 grams.

On the connectivity front, the iPhone 6s Plus comes with 4G LTE, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MiMo, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC (Apple Pay), GPS and GLONASS, VoLTE. It comes with sensors that include Touch ID, Barometer, Three-axis gyro, accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. Now, there is a 2nd Gen Touch ID sensor baked into the home button that is twice as fast as the last one. It has a battery that gives up to 24 hours of talk time on 3G. Internet usage of up to 12 hours on 3G, up to 12 hours on LTE, up to 12 hours on WiFi. It offers up to 16 days of standby time, up to 80 hours of audio playback and up to 14 hours of HD video playback.


The Apple iPhone 6s Plus is available in Space Gray, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold color and 16 / 64 / 128 GB storage variants. Pricing starts at $299 and goes up to $499 with 2-year contract in USA. It goes on pre-order from September 12 and rolls out on September 25. It launches in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan in the first wave. Apple also announced the iPhone 6s.
