Apple at the “Hey Siri, give us a hint.” event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California has launched “the biggest thing to ever happen to the iPad” – the Apple iPad Pro. It comes with a huge 12.9-inch display that packs in more pixels than a Retina Macbook Pro. Lets take a look at the specifications and features of this new product category.
The Apple iPad Pro packs in a 12.9-inch (2732 x 2048 pixels) Fully Laminated LED-backlit widescreen Retina Display with a pixel density of 264 ppi. It has fingerprint-resistant oleophobic and antireflective coating. It is powered by a A9X chip with 3rd gen 64-bit architecture along with the M9 motion coprocessor. It is suspected to pack in 4 GB of RAM. It runs on iOS 9 out of the box. It packs in a lot of sensors including the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the home button, Three-axis gyroscope, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Barometer. It comes with 32 GB and 128 GB of internal storage options and there is no scope of putting in an external microSD card.
The iPad Pro rocks a 8 megapixel iSight rear camera with f/2.4 aperture, 5 element lens. It can shoot Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps and Slo-mo videos at 120 fps. On the front, there is a 1.2 megapixel HD front-facing camera with /2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling. It can record HD (720p) videos. There is a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the home button as well. It weighs 713 grams (WiFi) and 723 grams (WiFi + Cellular) and is just 6.9 mm thick.
On the connectivity department, the new iPad Pro comes with 4G LTE (optional), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual channel) and HT80 with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS + GLONASS (Cellular only). It has a 38.5 watt hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that promises up to 10 hours of web surfing on WiFi, watching videos or listening to music and up to 9 hours using cellular data network.
The new Apple iPad Pro comes with a new smart connector (data & power) that connects to a new physical keyboard and a new stylus called Apple pencil that has highly responsive sensors built-in into the tip of the device for pressure, tilt and stroke. These two accessories are sold separately and is tailor-made for creative professionals. According to Apple, the new iPad Pro can even run AutoCAD smoothly at 60 fps.
The Apple iPad Pro will be available in Silver, Gold and Space Grey color variants. It has been priced at US $799 for the 32GB WiFi model, $949 for 128GB WiFi model and $1079 for the 128GB WiFi + LTE variant. The Smart Keyboard will cost US $169 and the Apple Pencil will set you back by $99. It will go on sale sometime in November this year.
