Apple had announced both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Tueday on September 9 at a special event. Both the devices were up for pre-order on Friday, September 12 at 12:01 AM PT in USA and selected countries.
Apple today announced that it has received a record pre-order of over four million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the first 24 hours of pre-launch sales in USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and UK. This is a new record after 2 million iPhone 5’s were pre-ordered in 2012.
On this record breaking ocassion, Tim Cook said,
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK beginning this Friday, September 19 and in more than 20 additional countries beginning on Friday, September 26 including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.
We expected Apple to smash all pre-order records and it just did it with the new iPhones. The company is also expecting to sell around 80 million new iPhones by the end of this year. iOS 8 is coming on September 17.
